Students

We will be offering virtual informational webinars (please check our Calendar of Events) this year.  Any dermatology interested student, regardless of anticipated application cycle, is welcome to attend.

Non-Harvard Medical students:

HMS offers limited opportunities for dermatology clerkships for external students (sometimes called “away rotations” or “audition rotations”).  Non-HMS Medical students interested in an exchange clerkship at a Harvard affiliated hospital should contact the HMS Registrar

Harvard Medical students:

We offer several dermatology electives for Harvard Medical students.  The Dermatology Clinical Clerkship is our introductory dermatology elective, available to all third and fourth year medical students.  After completing this clerkship, students are eligible to enroll our Advanced Dermatology elective, Lupus elective, and/or Oncodermatology elective.  Please review your Coursebook for further details about each elective.

You can also find useful information on how to prepare for your electives through this resource, created by HMS students under the supervision of our faculty.

Dermatology Interest Group

We recommend that HMS Medical students interested in Dermatology join the Dermatology Interest Group (DIG).  Dermatology faculty and residents serve as advisors for this group.

Research Opportunities

Find out more about research going on with our program.

We also have many dermatology faculty who are interested in serving as research advisors for medical students.  You are welcome to view our directory and contact these faculty directly.

Dermatology Advisors

The HMS Dermatology Core Advisory Committee is composed of five faculty advisors, each of whom serve as course or site directors for the HMS Dermatology Clinical Clerkship, who welcome students to contact them for career guidance. Their role is to inform you of career opportunities and the basic process of applying for dermatology residency, and to identify appropriate mentors for you. Based on your interests, they may meet with you or assign you directly to another mentor.  Please let them know your medical student year and a little bit about your interests and background.

Boston Children's Hospital Pediatric Dermatology Student Run Clinic

This faculty-student collaborative aims to increase access to dermatologic care for underinsured children.  Efforts include monthly evening clinics at Boston Children's Hospital staffed by Harvard medical students, dermatology trainees and BCH faculty, community outreach and education, and participating in pipeline programs for local youth.  Both junior and senior students are eligible to participate.  For more information, please visit our website.
