Massachusetts General Hospital, regularly ranked as one of the top hospitals in the country by US News and World Report, has been providing world class care to both the local and international communities since its founding in 1811. The Department of Dermatology is home to a busy clinical practice with over 50 practicing dermatologists, and hundreds more that support the research mission carried out through the MGH/Harvard Cutaneous Biology Research Center (CBRC), the Wellman Center for Photomedicine (WCP), and the Clinical Unit for Research Trials in Skin (CURTIS). The department’s footprint across MGH, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI), and Shriner’s Hospital for Children provides unparalleled clinical exposure to our trainees. There are several specialized programs within the department, many of which include multidisciplinary delivery of care: Pigmented Lesion Clinic, Skin of Color Program, Comprehensive Cutaneous Lymphoma Program, Rheumatology/Dermatology Clinic, Hair Clinic, Allergic and Occupational Dermatitis Clinic, Inpatient Dermatology Service, High Risk Skin Cancer Clinic, Laser and Cosmetics Center, Pediatric Dermatology Clinics, Dermatologic Surgery/Mohs Clinic, Teledermatology service, and Pruritus Clinic. Residents rotate through MGH as a core site of their residency experience, spending two months on the consult service and several months in the ambulatory clinics throughout their time in the Harvard residency. Brigham and Women's Hospital's Department of Dermatology is large, diverse and internationally renowned, comprised of 54 clinical faculty who diagnose, treat, and perform research on nearly every known skin disease and cancer. Our clinical program includes 6 geographic sites, including the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. Centers of excellence in melanoma and pigmented lesions, cutaneous lymphomas, Merkel cell carcinoma, graft vs host disease, toxicities of cancer chemotherapies, infectious disease, wound healing, Dermatology/Rheumatology, phototherapy, autoimmune blistering diseases, vitiligo, hair disorders, skin of color, aesthetic dermatology, allergic contact dermatitis and Mohs micrographic surgery feature physicians leaders with local, national, and international reputations. At BWH, residents have the opportunity to rotate through these general dermatology and specialty clinics, be a part of several continuity clinics, and be involved in inpatient care through a two month rotation. Our research program is world renowned and is the site of the first discovery of the molecule that mediates T cell homing to skin, the discovery of skin homing T cells, the discovery of molecules on bone marrow-derived and other stem cells that allow them to traffic to skin, and the discovery of new superior approaches to making vaccines. Our total NIH funding has been in the top 3 departments in the country since our inception, and we host several important NIH grants. Expertise in basic science, translational, clinical and epidemiological research define our spectrum of excellence.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is part of Beth Israel Lahey Health. BIDMC is a world-class teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School and consistently ranks as a national leader in National Institutes of Health funding over $229.8 million annually. Our Dermatology Program is composed of 17 full time and 3 part time faculty. We are proud to provide comprehensive medical and procedural expertise to an ethnically diverse patient population in the heart of Boston, complete with phototherapy unit, cosmetic service, and Mohs micrographic surgery and reconstruction. We also offer cutting-edge therapies to our patients through our clinical trials unit, Clinical Laboratory for Epidemiology and Applied Research in Skin (CLEARS).

At BIDMC, our faculty members are dedicated to teaching. We provide our dermatology residents with opportunities for both outpatient and inpatient experiences, continuity clinics, research opportunities including clinical trials, and specialty clinics in the areas of cutaneous oncology, pigmented lesions, skin of color, polycystic ovarian syndrome, hidradenitis suppurativa, contact dermatitis, patch testing, transplant dermatology, and hair and nails.​ Our department also supports faculty and resident scholarly activities by providing research funding through the BIDMC Dermatology Stern Grant.

Dermatology at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center offers comprehensive adult and pediatric dermatology consultation, care for ambulatory and hospitalized patients, as well as cutaneous surgery including Mohs' surgery. Cosmetic and laser procedures are also offered as well as patch testing, teledermatology services and a complete phototherapy center. Lahey Dermatology is also home to the New England Hansen's Disease Clinic and has several other specialty care clinics with expertise in Rheumatology/Dermatology, immunobullous diseases, high risk skin cancer, complex medical dermatology, hidradenitis suppurativa, contact dermatitis, hair loss, infectious disease dermatology and skin of color. At Lahey our focus is on innovative patient-centered care and our faculty all share a dedication to teaching future leaders in dermatology.

Boston Children's Hospital is one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States, with more than 40 clinical departments and 258 specialized clinical programs. Our hospital has been ranked the #1 pediatric hospital for the seventh year in a row by U.S. News and World Report. Our Dermatology Program is part of the Division of Immunology and is composed of 6 full time and 5 part time faculty. We are proud to provide multidisciplinary care at the Vascular Anomalies Center and in pediatric oncodermatology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We also work alongside rheumatology and allergy/immunology colleagues and collaborate closely in patient care and research. At BCH, we offer dermatology residents opportunities for continuity clinic, research experiences, pediatric dermatology clinic during general dermatology blocks, and a two month rotation that involves both inpatient and outpatient patient care.

The Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) Boston Health Care System offers the largest and most comprehensive dermatology program for veterans in the New England area. The Division of Dermatology at the VA is part of the Department of Medicine, and it is composed of 1 full-time faculty member and 9 part-time faculty members with primary appointments at other academic institutions in Boston. Services include general medical dermatology, complex medical dermatology, dermatology surgery/Mohs, wound care, light therapy, laser treatment, and inpatient consultation. We offer Harvard dermatology residents the opportunity to rotate at the VA during a one month general dermatology block in their first year, and a two month comprehensive block in their senior year. Our residency program is honored to partner with our colleagues at the VA, Boston Medical Center and Tufts to provide excellent clinical and surgical care to our veterans.
